Story & Craftsmanship

1. The 17th-Century Delftware Vessel

The heart of this table lamp is an authentic, lobed (ribbed) Delft tin-glazed earthenware jar dating from the third quarter of the 17th century (c. 1660–1680). Hand-painted in cobalt blue, the intricate Chinoiserie scene depicts traditional Asian figures amidst a rocky landscape—a prime example of early Dutch potters imitating Chinese Transitional porcelain. The vase is unmarked, which is typical for early Delftware, as factory marks only came into widespread use around 1680.

2. Japanese Kintsugi Repair

Celebrating the beauty of imperfection (Wabi-sabi), a hair crack on the vase has been lovingly restored using the ancient Japanese Kintsugi technique. Highlighted with a fine gold seam, this restoration transforms a historical mark into a striking decorative feature, ensuring the piece’s structural integrity while adding a unique story.

3. Bespoke Reclaimed Elm Lid & Premium Fittings

To replace the long-lost original lid, a custom wooden lid was hand-turned from a piece of reclaimed antique elm wood (iepenhout). The warm, natural grain of the wood provides a tactile contrast to the cool blue-and-white ceramics.

The lamp is equipped with:

  • An adjustable E27 fitting, allowing you to tilt the shade to the perfect angle.

  • A luxurious blue velvet lampshade, casting a warm, atmospheric ambient glow.

  • A braided fabric cord with an integrated inline switch.
