Delft Baluster Vase, Late 17th–Early 18th Century.
A Delft baluster vase dating from the late 17th or early 18th century, decorated in cobalt blue with chinoiserie scenes in the transitional style. The decoration depicts a warrior and other figures within a landscape setting, while the reverse is painted with characteristic misty rock formations. The figures and motifs are finely outlined with dark, precise strokes (the so-called “trek”), and the cobalt blue shows gradients, adding depth and subtle shading to the scenes.
The original lid is no longer present. The vase bears an indistinct mark to the base.
